{"id":1315,"date":"2023-05-24T16:04:01","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T21:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=1315"},"modified":"2026-06-03T15:54:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T20:54:25","slug":"deans-list-honors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/records-registration\/student-academic-records\/deans-list-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Dean&#8217;s List &amp; Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dean&#8217;s List Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Undergraduate students are included on the Dean&#8217;s List if you complete at least 12 credits for a grade at WSU during a single semester and achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any pass\/no credit grades do not count toward the 12 credit minimum. Credits for Incomplete or In-Progress classes are not included in the 12 credit minimum.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dean\u2019s List honorees are recognized for fall and spring terms only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.winona.edu\/deans-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dean&#8217;s List<\/a>&nbsp;is published online. The University Communications Office also notifies hometown newspapers of Dean&#8217;s List honorees within eight weeks of the semester&#8217;s end.&nbsp;It is at the newspapers&#8217; discretion whether to publish our dean&#8217;s list information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have questions about the Dean&#8217;s List, please call 507.457.2800.<\/p>\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/news.winona.edu\/deans-list\/\" class=\"wsu-link cta-button cta-button--external cta-button--lime cta-button-- cta-button--light\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\" >\n    <span>View the Dean&#8217;s List<\/span>\n<\/a>\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Graduation with Honors<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Honors are awarded to WSU graduates whose academic record shows significant academic achievement. The level of academic achievement is reflected by their grade point average (GPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honors Standards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cum Laude: Overall GPA between 3.600 and 3.749<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Magna Cum Laude: Overall GPA between 3.750 and 3.899<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summa Cum Laude: Overall GPA between 3.900 and 4.000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To qualify for Graduation with Honors, you must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students receiving a baccalaureate degree must complete at least 30 credits of WSU courses during their junior and senior years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students receiving an AA degree must complete 16 credits of WSU courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achieve a minimum GPA of 3.60 for all WSU coursework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Achieve an overall GPA &#8211; including college-level transfer credits &#8211; of 3.60<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All GPAs are truncated, not rounded up or down. For example, 3.2499 is truncated to 3.24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who do not meet all these requirements are not eligible for honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Provisional Honors<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Final Honors<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Provisional Honors<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>Honors recognition for the Commencement ceremony are only provisional honors. Your honor status may change after final honors are determined.<\/p>\n<p>Provisional honors are based on coursework you&#8217;ve completed before the term in which you&#8217;ve applied to graduate.<\/p>\n<p>This includes any faculty grade changes for prior coursework on record at the midterm deadline of the graduation term.
