{"id":1398,"date":"2024-04-10T08:29:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T13:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=1398"},"modified":"2024-04-10T08:29:09","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T13:29:09","slug":"request-accommodations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/access-services\/request-accommodations\/","title":{"rendered":"Request Accommodations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-text-intro\">Once you\u2019re registered with Access Services, you\u2019ll request the accommodations you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each semester, you\u2019ll need to submit a request form through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/warriorspace.winona.edu\/ProcessDirector\/form.aspx?pid=cbc76cfa-e332-489a-a868-237dcf390893&amp;formid=864847a5-453e-4cd5-8f9b-5e99d42ac65e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Access Services Student Dashboard<\/a> for each class in which you would like to receive accommodations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may submit a request any time after registration when your schedule is finalized. You are also encouraged to use other&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"29\">support services<\/a>&nbsp;offered by WSU.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Types of Accommodations<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>These are common accommodations provided for free to students registered with Access Services to support equal access to their classes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your unique situation, you may receive other types of accommodations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WSU does not provide:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal devices such as wheelchairs or glasses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal services such as private tutoring or personal attendants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modifications that would lower or change course standards or program standards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Services that are unduly burdensome, administratively, or financially<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block accordion\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Alternative_Testing\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Alternative_Testing\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Alternative Testing        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Access Services will help coordinate alternate testing options including extended time, distraction free, and audio format.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/access-services\/alternate-testing-procedures\/\">alternate testing procedures<\/a>.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Note-taking\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Note-taking\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Note-taking        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Students can use technology like Evernote and OneNote to help with note-taking during class.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Alternate_Format_Textbooks\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Alternate_Format_Textbooks\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Alternate Format Textbooks        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Students can submit their requests for books in alternate formats each semester on their accommodation request form. Then, you will meet with the Technology Specialist to get your books at the start of each semester.<\/p>\n<p>Students must provide proof of purchase of their books to meet copyright laws of publishers.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Recording_Lectures\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Recording_Lectures\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Recording Lectures        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>In some cases, students with disabilities may record their class lectures. The student is responsible for the set-up of the equipment and for the recording of the lecture.<\/p>\n<p>Once recorded, it may not be shared with other students. All files are to be erased, deleted, or destroyed at the end of the semester.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Sign_Language_Interpreter\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Sign_Language_Interpreter\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Sign Language Interpreter        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Access Services will arrange for an interpreter to be present in the classroom and other class-related activities, such as small groups or a meeting with a faculty member.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Accessible_Housing\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Accessible_Housing\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Accessible Housing        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>If you require <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/housing-dining\/apply\/accessible-housing\/\">housing accommodations <\/a>on the basis of a disability, email Housing &amp; Residence Life\u00a0at <a title=\"Email WSU Housing &amp; Residence Life\" href=\"mailto:housing@winona.edu\">housing@winona.edu<\/a> after you\u2019ve submitted documentation to Access Services.<\/p>\n<p>Connect with the Housing &amp; Residence Life Office as soon as possible to be sure you get the housing accommodations that you need.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Service Animals &amp; Emotional Support Animals<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, service animals are any dog (or other animal as defined under the ADA) that have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. These animals are permitted in the residence halls. However, all housing documentation must be submitted per the approval process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emotional support animals (ESA) are companion animals that provide therapeutic benefit, such as alleviating or mitigating some symptoms of a disability, to a person with a mental or psychiatric disability. These animals are only permitted in residence halls if approved by Access Services and all housing documentation is completed per the approval process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a visitor has an ESA, they are not permitted to bring their ESA into the residence halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No other animals are permitted in on-campus housing.
