{"id":2299,"date":"2025-02-03T15:39:02","date_gmt":"2025-02-03T21:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=2299"},"modified":"2025-02-03T15:39:02","modified_gmt":"2025-02-03T21:39:02","slug":"wellness-challenge","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/wellness\/fitness-center\/wellness-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellness Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re a fitness fanatic or just starting to pursue a healthier way of living, you are encouraged to participate in the annual Wellness Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s how the challenge works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create your team of 10 members and email your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wellness-Challenge-Team-Sign-Up.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team Sign-Up Form<\/a>\u00a0(PDF) to Kaitlyn Calabrese at <a href=\"mailto:kaitlyn.calabrese@winona.edu\">kaitlyn.calabrese@winona.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earn&nbsp;points for participating in a variety of wellness categories through the week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Team captains will receive an email from&nbsp;Kaitlyn&nbsp;with an Excel spreadsheet to track your team\u2019s points by week. View an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Wellness-Challenge-Tracking-Sheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">example of the tracking sheet<\/a> (PDF).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The team with the most points at the end of the Wellness Challenge wins a prize!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have any questions, email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:kaitlyn.calabrese@winona.edu\">kaitlyn.calabrese@winona.edu<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Point Explanations<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s how to earn points and track them on the Point Tracking Sheet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block accordion\">\n        <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Aerobics\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Aerobics\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Aerobics        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>There are several ways to earn aerobic points, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>30+ minutes on any cardio equipment located in the IWC\u2019s Fitness Center or another fitness center of your choice.<\/li>\n<li>30+ minutes of jogging, walking, rollerblading, etc. outdoors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can earn 1 point maximum per day. If you do an hour of aerobics a day, you do not get another point.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Attend_a_WSU_Fitness_Class_in_the_Fitness_Studio\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Attend_a_WSU_Fitness_Class_in_the_Fitness_Studio\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Attend a WSU Fitness Class in the Fitness Studio        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>This is available to students, staff and faculty. We have a class schedule posted at the Fitness Studio located across from the IWC fitness center.<\/p>\n<p>You can earn 2 points, but please do not double dip on your points by counting this and aerobics&#8211;must choose only one per day.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Attend_a_WSU_Sponsored_Event\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Attend_a_WSU_Sponsored_Event\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Attend a WSU Sponsored Event        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Earn 2 points by attending any\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/about\/events\/\">WSU sponsored event<\/a>. This could be a campus concert, athletic event, guest speaker&#8217;s lecture, etc.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Doctor_Visit\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Doctor_Visit\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Doctor Visit        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>It is important that you have a yearly appointment with your doctor. This can be the first indication of any concerns or changes that you may have to make in your wellness journey.<\/p>\n<p>This appointment must be done during the challenge and can only be counted one time during the challenge. You can\u00a0receive 10 points for meeting this goal.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Drink_8+_8oz_Glasses_of_Water\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Drink_8+_8oz_Glasses_of_Water\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Drink 8+ 8oz Glasses of Water        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Consuming enough water daily is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you get 8 or more 8 oz. glasses of water in a day, you can award yourself 2 points.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Eat_Healthy\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Eat_Healthy\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Eat Healthy        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Eating healthy can be tough with the busy schedule of a college student. Make it a priority and earn 1 point daily by eating 3 veggies and 2 fruits each day.\u00a0Hey, it\u2019s a start!<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Get_7+_Hours_of_Continuous_Sleep\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Get_7+_Hours_of_Continuous_Sleep\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Get 7+ Hours of Continuous Sleep        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>One of the biggest problems among college students is a lack of sleep. Sleeplessness can contribute to the inability to concentrate, depression, and many other wellness problems.<\/p>\n<p>Earn 2 points daily by getting a minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Intramurals_Activity\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Intramurals_Activity\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Intramurals Activity        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Participation in any of WSU\u2019s intramural activities is worth 1 point.<\/p>\n<p>This is separate from your aerobic workout. You can have a point for intramurals and for aerobics if you did both activities in one day.<\/p>\n<p>But you can\u2019t give yourself a point for intramurals\u00a0and aerobics if the only thing you did was intramurals.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Memorial_Pool_Swim\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Memorial_Pool_Swim\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Memorial Pool Swim        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>This is available to students, staff and faculty. We have a pool schedule posted at Pool located in Memorial. You can earn 2 points per day.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"New_Aerobic_Activity\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"New_Aerobic_Activity\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            New Aerobic Activity        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>This category encourages you to try something new.\u00a0Each new activity provides a one-time opportunity to earn 2 points. You must list the new activity or equipment used on your tracking sheet.<\/p>\n<p>You can qualify for a new activity max of 2 points daily. You cannot earn points for a new activity (2pts) plus your regular aerobic activity (1pt) in one day.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"No_Smoking_or_Vaping_for_24_Hours\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"No_Smoking_or_Vaping_for_24_Hours\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            No Smoking or Vaping for 24 Hours        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>We are encouraging everyone to quit the habit of smoking. Each day without smoking is worth 1 point. Non-smokers qualify for points too.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"No_Alcoholic_Beverages_for_24_Hours\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"No_Alcoholic_Beverages_for_24_Hours\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            No Alcoholic Beverages for 24 Hours        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Earn 1 point daily by abstaining from consumption of alcoholic beverages.
