{"id":2340,"date":"2024-07-23T15:12:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-23T20:12:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=2340"},"modified":"2025-01-27T15:31:00","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T21:31:00","slug":"career-readiness","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/career-services\/career-readiness\/","title":{"rendered":"Career Readiness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-text-intro wp-block-paragraph\">Prepare for your career, whatever that may be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like most students, you\u2019ve probably chosen to attend Winona State to prepare for a future career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The term \u201ccareer\u201d can mean different things to different people, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>getting a job after graduation&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>continuing your education in graduate school or other programs&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>honing a craft like creative writing, music performance, or art&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>researching an academic discipline&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>creating your own personal journey&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At WSU, we use the term \u201ccareer readiness\u201d to describe the process of learning and practicing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/career-services\/career-readiness\/#core-competencies\">essential competencies<\/a> that help prepare you for a successful life after college in your academic field, workplace, local community, or family.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These core competencies are not specifically tied to any individual major or career path. Every WSU graduate can develop career readiness through academic courses, guest speakers, club involvement, student employment, and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being focused and engaged in your college experience strengthens your career readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The core competencies framework helps create a common language when you speak with colleagues, faculty, employers, family, and the public about how the time you spent at WSU prepared you to be successful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Core Competencies<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Competence is the ability to do something successfully.
