{"id":4172,"date":"2023-12-22T10:05:01","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T16:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=4172"},"modified":"2024-02-26T14:40:22","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T20:40:22","slug":"plan-for-class-registration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/advising-services\/plan-for-class-registration\/","title":{"rendered":"Plan for Class Registration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The advising periods for fall and spring semesters begin about two weeks before registration opens.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.minnstate.edu\/media\/wwicka%40winona.edu\/1_7hxx6b2n\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WSU Online Registration Tutorial<\/a>&nbsp;to prepare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, follow these steps to get the most of your advising and make sure you complete your degree on schedule.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Step 1. Add Needed Classes to Your Wishlist<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>Before meeting with your advisor, it is important to make an initial attempt at selecting your courses for the next semester. This will save time and make your advising meeting more productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review your Degree Audit Report (DARS) to identify classes that are required next in your degree program. Also take note of any&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/academics\/programs\/general-education-program\/\">general education courses<\/a> that you still need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To access your DARS:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log into&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eservices.minnstate.edu\/registration\/search\/advanced.html?campusid=074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student eServices<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u201cAcademic Records\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open your \u201cDegree Audit Report\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wsu-block tabs\">\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-nav\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-1\">Consult a Major Map<\/button>\n<button class=\"tabs__toggle\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"tabbed-2\">Add Courses to Wishlist<\/button>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"tabs-content\">\n        <button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Consult a Major Map<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>There may be a major map available for your program. Major maps provide semester-by-semester guidance on which classes to take each term.<\/p>\n<p>Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.winona.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">course catalog<\/a> for your major to see if your program has a major map available.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<button class=\"tabs__mobile__toggle\">Add Courses to Wishlist<\/button>\n<div class=\"tabs__content__item\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><div><p>Once you identify your needed courses, add them to your wish list in Student eServices.<\/p>\n<p>Then use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Student-Schedule-Planning-Sheet-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Schedule Planning Sheet<\/a> (PDF) to make sure your classes do not overlap each other.<\/p>\n<p>Remember to check the prerequisites for each class to ensure you meet the requirements needed to register.<\/p>\n<p>For math, English 111 and language courses, take time to learn about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/advising-services\/determine-course-placement\/\">course placement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2. Schedule an Appointment with Your Advisor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you register, you will meet with your academic advisor. It is important to do this before your registration window opens because you&#8217;ll have the best chance to get into the classes you need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend scheduling your meeting at least a week before registration opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Schedule a Meeting&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To schedule a meeting with your advisor using the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/w3.winona.edu\/AdvisingSchedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Faculty Advising Scheduler<\/a>, choose the &#8220;Students&#8221; tab and enter your advisor&#8217;s name in the search box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your advisor has appointments in the schedule, select an available time to make your appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are no appointment times open in your advisor\u2019s schedule, you will have to connect with your advisor to set up a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not know who your advisor is, your advisor&#8217;s name is listed on your DARS report. To access your DARS:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log into&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eservices.minnstate.edu\/registration\/search\/advanced.html?campusid=074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student eServices<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u201cAcademic Records\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open your \u201cDegree Audit Report\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3. Meet with Your Advisor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bring your laptop and your DARS to the advising meeting. At the meeting, your advisor will review your course schedule and may suggest changes to keep you on track with your degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your advisor will also provide your registration access code. Enter that code in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eservices.minnstate.edu\/registration\/search\/advanced.html?campusid=074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student eServices<\/a>&nbsp;under Registration Access Code during your meeting to make sure it is correct.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your major requires entry into the college or program, your advisor will help you understand the application process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4. Register for Classes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can register for classes when their registration window opens.
