{"id":4176,"date":"2025-01-22T09:38:53","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T15:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=4176"},"modified":"2025-01-22T09:38:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T15:38:54","slug":"drop-withdraw-change-grade-method","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/advising-services\/drop-withdraw-change-grade-method\/","title":{"rendered":"Drop, Withdraw, &amp; Change Grade Method"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After registering for classes, you might find yourself wanting to make changes to your class schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also make changes to your courses and grading methods during the semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, consider these important factors before you do anything:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dropping and withdrawing from a class are different, and therefore have different impacts on your transcript, academic standing, and tuition bill<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you decide to change your grade method for a full-term course, your change must be completed before the \u201cLast day to change grade method on full term courses\u201d deadline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changing your course schedule or grade methods may set you back in your degree program&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you receive financial aid, changing your schedule or grading methods may affect your aid package<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter what change you are making, it is important to talk to an advisor to see how it affects your transcript, academic standing, financial aid, and major completion rate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dropping a Class<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A course that is dropped does not show up on your transcript. You will not be charged for a course that is dropped within the deadline. You can always drop a class before it starts, and you may have additional days to drop depending upon the length of the class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drop Deadlines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The specific drop dates are listed in the course details for each class section in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eservices.minnstate.edu\/registration\/search\/advanced.html?campusid=074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Student eServices<\/a>. Finish the Class with Extra Effort &amp; Support        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>If you feel that you can still pass the class, this may be the best option. Talk to your professor to help assess your progress in the class and the likelihood of you passing.<\/p>\n<p>Tutoring offered by the department or by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tutoring-services\/\">Tutoring Services<\/a>\u00a0can help you persevere in a challenging class. Take advantage of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tutoring-services\/#group\">Supplemental Instruction<\/a> if available for your class.<\/p>\n<p>You might still have time to use these resources to improve your grade.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"2._Know_the_Consequences_of_Withdrawal\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"2._Know_the_Consequences_of_Withdrawal\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            2. Know the Consequences of Withdrawal        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Withdrawing from a class will negatively affect your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/advising-services\/understand-your-academic-status\/calculate-your-completion-rate\/\">credit completion rate<\/a>, which could impact your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/advising-services\/understand-your-academic-status\/\">academic status.<\/a>\u00a0To remain in good academic standing, students must pass 66.66% of all credits attempted.<\/p>\n<p>If you are receiving financial aid, you must also maintain a credit completion rate of 66.66% or better.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a student athlete, talk to your coach about whether or not withdrawing from a class will affect your eligibility to participate in athletics.<\/p>\n<p>If this class is required for your major or minor, you will likely have to repeat the class if you withdraw. Determine if Withdrawing Makes Sense for You        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>One advantage of dropping a class and receiving a \u201cW\u201d grade is that your GPA will not be negatively affected.<\/p>\n<p>If you do withdraw from the class and know that you will need to repeat it, consider asking the instructor if you can continue to sit in on the class.
