{"id":443,"date":"2024-03-19T11:32:54","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T16:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/?page_id=443"},"modified":"2025-12-29T14:55:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T20:55:22","slug":"damage-theft","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tech-support\/ewarrior-laptop-program\/damage-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"Damage &amp; Theft"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-text-intro\">Students are responsible for any accidental damages, loss, or theft of their laptop that isn\u2019t covered by the manufacturer\u2019s warranty or damage and theft protection.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Damaged Laptops<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>Nearly 33% of WSU students damage their laptop or its accessories every year. Most of these damages are from spills, which can cost hundreds of dollars to repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are responsible for accidental damage or lost components\u2014even if the damage is caused by others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be assessed fees as detailed in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tech-support\/ewarrior-laptop-program\/#tech-agreement\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tech-support\/ewarrior-laptop-program\/#tech-agreement\">eWarrior Technology Agreement<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fees are not charged for repairs covered by warranty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fees will be charged for damage such as cracked casings, broken screens, and liquid spills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fees increase incrementally with each incident during the two-year lease period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will be charged the exact amount of the repair for minor incidents such as a crack in the case or a broken keyboard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may obtain permission to have their laptop repaired by an authorized repair center outside of WSU. However, this permission must be granted prior to the repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose to purchase the optional Laptop Guard Damage &amp; Theft protection plan for laptops and power cords, which protects against: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>accidental damage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>liquid spills and submersion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>power surge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>100% parts and labor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>theft<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Stolen Laptops<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>Report stolen laptops to local law enforcement authorities within 5 days of the incident and request a copy of the police report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn in a copy of the police report to the Technical Support Center, and you will receive a replacement laptop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/student-life\/support\/tech-support\/ewarrior-laptop-program\/#tech-agreement\">eWarrior Technology Agreement<\/a>, a fee of $500 will be charged to your account if the theft is not covered by Laptop Guard.<\/p>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n    <div class=\"panel panel--white\">\n        <div class=\"panel__container\">\n            <div class=\"panel__intro\">\n                            <div class=\"h3\">Laptop Guard Protection<\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n            \n\n<p>Why risk dropping, spilling, or damaging your laptop? Protect your device with Laptop Guard Damage &amp; Theft Protection Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laptop Guard covers theft and accidental or unforeseeable damages including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>cracked screen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>liquid spills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>drops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cord splits or breaks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no deductibles and coverage is unlimited. The charge for your purchase will be applied directly to your student account.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not sign up right away, you still have 30 days to purchase coverage without inspection.<\/p>\n<p>Laptop Guard can still be purchased at any time after the initial 30-day window. We will repair the issue or swap you into another device of the same model and process your Laptop Guard claim at no additional cost to you.<\/p>\n<p>Without Laptop Guard protection, you would be assessed repair fees according to the eWarrior Tech Agreement.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Is_cord_damage_covered?\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Is_cord_damage_covered?\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Is cord damage covered?        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Yes, if you accidentally rip, spill on, or otherwise damage your laptop\u2019s charger cord, you can bring the damaged charger to Tech Support and receive a replacement at no charge.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Is_charger_theft_covered?_\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Is_charger_theft_covered?_\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Is charger theft covered?         <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>Yes, if your laptop&#8217;s charger is stolen you can get a replacement for free, but you must file a police or Security report and bring a copy to Tech Support.<\/p>\n<p>Loss of a charger is not covered.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"What_if_my_device_is_stolen?_\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"What_if_my_device_is_stolen?_\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            What if my device is stolen?         <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>File a police report with the laptop&#8217;s serial number as soon as possible and bring a full copy of it to Tech Support. If a report isn&#8217;t filed within 5 days of the theft, Laptop Guard will not cover the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Laptop Guard covers only incidents of robbery or theft.
