Dependents\u2019 Educational Assistance<\/a>\u00a0(Chapter 35)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.va.gov\/education\/survivor-dependent-benefits\/fry-scholarship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Minnesota_GI_Bill\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Minnesota_GI_Bill\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Minnesota GI Bill        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>To receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/resources\/education\/educationbenefits\/mngibill.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MN GI Bill<\/a>, you must meet eligibility requirements such as being a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohe.state.mn.us\/mPg.cfm?pageID=194\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota resident<\/a>\u00a0and attending an institution within the state.<\/p>\n<p>The WSU Financial Aid Office will assess your application and determine the funding amount you can receive each term.<\/p>\n<p>Any amount of aid you receive through other programs such as the Pell Grant, state grants and federal military or veterans education benefits will be factored in when calculating your MN GI Bill award.<\/p>\n<p>Your award amount is based on whether you are enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Program Type <\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Enrollment Status <\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Maximum Award Per Term <\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Undergraduate<\/td>\n<td>Part-Time | Less than 12 Credits<\/td>\n<td>No Limit<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Undergraduate<\/td>\n<td>Full-Time | 12+ Credits<\/td>\n<td>$5,000<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Graduate<\/td>\n<td>Part-Time | Less Than 6 Credits<\/td>\n<td>No Limit<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Graduate<\/td>\n<td>Full-Time | 6+ Credits<\/td>\n<td>$5,000<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Each <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winona.edu\/about\/news-events\/#calendars\">academic year<\/a>, you can receive up to $5,000 with a lifetime maximum of $15,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To apply, you must complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/gibill.mn.gov\/Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MN GI Bill application<\/a>\u00a0and the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid<\/a>\u00a0(FAFSA).<\/p>\n<p>The MN Department of Veterans Affairs will verify your eligibility and you may be contacted to provide additional documentation such as your DD214 or other discharge documents.<\/p>\n<p>WSU Financial Aid Office uses the FAFSA to determine your aid award amounts and will notify you if you qualify.<\/p>\n<p>You must <strong>apply for this benefit every year<\/strong>, and <strong>retroactive awards are not allowed<\/strong>. If you want to use the MN GI Bill to pay for courses in a given semester, you have to <strong>apply before that semester end<\/strong>s.<\/p>\n<p>You can currently be taking courses and then apply for the MN GI Bill to pay the costs as long as you do so before the semester ends.<\/p>\n<p>However, it\u2019s best to submit your MN GI Bill application before classes begin.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions, you can email the WSU VA Office at <a href=\"mailto:veterans@winona.edu\">veterans@winona.edu<\/a>. You can also contact Veterans Assistance Coordinator Mark Larsen at <a href=\"mailto:mark.larsen@state.mn.us\">mark.larsen@state.mn.us<\/a> or 507.779.9375.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"accordion__item\" data-animation=\"fade-in-up\" data-animate=\"true\">\n        <button id=\"Federal_Tuition_Assistance\" class=\"accordion__toggle\" title=\"Federal_Tuition_Assistance\" aria-pressed=\"false\">\n            Federal Tuition Assistance        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\">\n            <p>The Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) Program funding is maxed out at $250 per semester credit hour or $4,000 per year to cover up to 16 credits.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all active duty, Reserve and Guard members are eligible for FTA. Mark Street, Winona MN 55987)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Banking account and routing number for your benefits funds to be direct deposited&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you\u2019ve submitted your benefit application, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) in the mail about 30 days later. Your COE will have details about your benefits including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How many months the benefits cover&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What percentage of the benefits you are eligible for&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How long you have to use the benefits&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will need to upload a copy of this letter to your Certificate of Eligibility Form in WarriorSpace before the start of the semester.
