Faculty & Staff Devices

Faculty and staff at WSU are provided with computers and related equipment needed for their jobs and technical assistance that starts when employees select their devices. This is your guide to the devices available through IT and the responsibilities that come with using those devices.

Permitted Use

Winona State University employee use of technology equipment, including computers and tablets is covered in the Employee Tech Agreement.

Public Jobs: Private Data

All computers, tablets and devices with access to store electronic files must be encrypted if they contain private information or have access to private information, including email, student grades, and financial information as well as any other personal data regarding WSU employees or students.

Minnesota State Board policy 5.23.1.3 requires that all University owned or leased computing devices must have data erased prior to disposal or re-deployment of that device. WSU’s eWarrior Digital Life and Learning (DLL) program provides a standard set of software, laptops and tablets for faculty, staff and students. Each WSU department determines which employees should have a laptop and/or tablet. Employees with WSU mobile devices the same tools and support as students enrolled in the eWarrior DLL program, with a few differences:

  • Employee laptops and tablets will be exchanged for a new model every three years; employees will be notified when their devices are due to be exchanged.
  • Fees for lost, stolen or damaged devices are charged to the department, and the department decides whether to pay the fees or charge them to the employee.
  • Safeware insurance is not available for employee devices.

Choosing Your Mobile Device lists features of current WSU models and provides departmental laptop recommendations by major. To order a laptop and/or tablet for a NEW employee, complete the online laptop and/or tablet selection form, and contact the Tech Support Center to schedule a distribution session.
