Scholarships

The scholarships listed and described below are administered by the Theatre & Dance Department and are available only to declared theatre majors and minors or dance minors.

For information about scholarships and loan programs available to all students and are administered by Winona State University, please visit the Financial Aid Office.

Please note: In exceptional circumstances, later applicants may be considered.

*One application will be used for consideration for all scholarships. You do not need to apply for each scholarship individually.

All scholarships listed are non-renewable.

  • One non-renewable scholarship of $1000.
  • Eligibility: Incoming first-year or enrolled continuing students who are declared theatre majors/minors or dance minors.
  • Criteria: demonstrated ability and potential for growth as an actor, dancer, or designer; financial need; graduation from Winona, La Crescent, Lewiston, St. Charles, Houston or Rushford High School preferred but not required.
  • Scholarship recipients must
    • declare a theatre major/minor or dance minor at the time of initial enrollment.
    • successfully complete 12 or more credits per semester with a GPA of 2.00 or better during the term of the scholarship.
    • audition for a minimum of two main season productions as a performer or technician during the scholarship year.
    • show financial aid through FAFSA.
  • Submit a cover letter, completed application form, evidence of admission to WSU or current transcript, two letters of recommendation or resume of past WSU theatre or dance experience.
  • Audition or portfolio is required of applicants who are new to WSU. Presentation in person is preferred.
  • Non-renewable scholarship
  • Each recipient must be declared Theater Arts Major
  • Eligibility: WSU GPA 3.0
  • Full-time student
  • Sophomore or Junior class status
  • Financial need
  • This scholarship is available every other year
  • Eligibility: Incoming first-year students. Must
    • have a composite ACT of at least 23 and rank in the top 30% of their high school graduating class.
    • have been admitted to WSU and have declared a major in theatre.
    • maintain the status of a declared theatre major.
    • participate in two main season productions per year as a performer or technician.
    • maintain acceptable progress as a full-time theatre major with an overall GPA of 2.8 or better.
  • Submit a cover letter and completed application form; evidence of ACT scores, high school rank and admission to WSU; essay and two letters of recommendation.
  • Presentation in person is required; also required is an interview with members of the THAD faculty.
  • Current students must
    • maintain the status of a declared theatre major or minor.
    • be enrolled full time with at least 12 credits per semester.
    • participate in two main season productions per year as a performer or technician.
    • maintain acceptable progress as a full-time theatre major with an overall GPA of 2.8 or better.
  • Scholarship amounts vary.
  • Must be a full-time student and a declared theatre major/minor or dance minor.
  • Completed at least 45 S.H. at WSU.
  • Quality and quantity of participation in department activities including but not limited to productions, showcase, Wenonah Players and Dance Society.
  • Financial need as well as academic work considered.
  • Scholarship of $1000.
  • Must have GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be classified as freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Must be declared and accepted as a dance minor.
  • Must be a full-time student at WSU.
  • Scholarship of $1000.

  • Must have GPA of 3.0.

  • Transfer students must have completed 30 semester credits from another institution with GPA of 3.35 or better.

Students who qualify for Work-Study may apply to work in the THAD Department Office or the Scenic or Costume Studios at the prevailing university wage.
