Are You Eligible for TRIO?

TRIO is funded by a federal grant to serve up to 225 students per year who meet certain eligibility requirements.

You must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status. You'll also need to have academic need and  meet at least one of these criteria:

  • Are a first-generation college student, meaning neither parent has earned a four-year college degree
  • Are low-income according to federal low-income guidelines
  • Have a documented learning, physical or psychological disability registered with WSU Access Services

If you meet any of these qualifications and think TRIO can help, we’d love to meet you! Please contact 507.457.5465 or stop by the TRIO office in Library 219 to learn more.

How do I apply to be a TRIO participant?

To join TRIO, you will have to complete an Intake Application Form (PDF) and an Individual Success Plan Form (PDF).

If you are eligible, you will be contacted to set up a meeting with a TRIO advisor.

If I join, how much involvement in the program is required?

You and your advisor will work out a meeting plan based on your individual needs. You are also welcome to study or hang out in Library 219 during office hours.

TRIO students must attend one event sponsored by TRIO each semester and participate in CashCourse.

You are strongly encouraged to participate in TRIO workshops, leadership activities and WSU cross-cultural events. These experiences are a great way to meet people and learn new skills. Plus, they can be valuable additions to your resume!

What if I'm not eligible for TRIO?

If you are not eligible or were not accepted into the TRIO program, there are many other campus resources you can use.

The Warrior Success Center is a great place to start. This team offers advising, career services, access services and tutoring to all WSU students.

Please contact the Warrior Success Center at or stop by Maxwell 314 to find out how they can help.
