Biel Leadership Fellowship
Thanks to the generosity of WSU alumni, Karen Biel, faculty in the Department of Nursing have designed a voluntary, for-credit, clinical leadership program specifically for undergraduate nursing students. This leadership model promotes key leadership characteristics that promote patient-centered care. The program consists of four one-credit seminars that are offered during semesters two, three and four of the undergraduate nursing program. There is also a one-credit, 30-hour field experience that is offered during the May term.
Biel fellows will gain knowledge about interdisciplinary collaboration, current healthcare issues, and learn about strategies that promote patient safety during and throughout patient transitions of care. Students apply to become a Biel Fellow during the first semester of the nursing program.
The program provides for tuition and associated fees of the three one-credit courses offered during semesters two, three, and four. Students are responsible for the tuition and fees associated with the one-credit summer May term field experience.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship program, each student fellow will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
