The WSU MSNA is a member of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), which focuses on nursing student issues and problems.
Membership is available at the local, state, and national levels. Pre-nursing students are welcome and encouraged to join this pre-professional organization for nursing students.

This new club is a social support system for pre-nursing students before they are admitted to the undergraduate nursing program.
This club will provide the necessary information and resources to be a successful pre-nursing student, while also collaborating with the Undergraduate Pre-Licensure Nursing Club.
All pre-nursing (PNDA & PNHA) students are welcome to join.
This organization is designed to serve as a social support system for those majoring in nursing and to promote community service activities and fundraising efforts by nursing students.
Junior and senior nursing students—both on the Winona campus and Rochester campus—are welcome to join.
Kappa Mu is the local chapter of Sigma, an international professional organization supporting nursing excellence.
Our chapter goal is to support members in their nursing practice, research, scholarship, and service goals, and to achieve nursing excellence in our service area.

In addition to undergraduate tuition and fees, students in the Pre-Licensure Nursing Program have program-specific fees such as:
- Transportation to and from clinical experiences
- Scrubs for clinicals
- Stethoscope
- Differential tuition for nursing credits (about $42 per credit)
- Books and materials (print and electronic) are quite expensive –especially in Term 1 and Term 3 (about $1,500 for each of these semesters)

Scholarships
In addition to the general scholarships at WSU, students in the nursing programs can apply for many scholarships from the WSU Foundation.

Most scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement or financial need, which may require you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Biel Leadership Fellowship program provides a $1,500 scholarship and opportunities to learn about:
- key leadership characteristics
- interdisciplinary collaboration
- current healthcare issues
- strategies that promote patient safety during and throughout patient transitions of care
Students apply to become a Biel Fellow during the first semester of the pre-licensure BS nursing program.
As a Biel Fellow, you will attend four one-credit seminars that are offered during Semesters 2, 3, and 4 of the undergraduate nursing program. The tuition and fees for these courses are paid for by the Biel Leadership Fellowship program.
There is also a one-credit, 30-hour field experience during the May term. Students are responsible for the cost of the May term field experience.
The Biel Leadership Fellowship is provided by the generosity of WSU alumni Karen Biel.
Individual benefactors, affiliating hospitals, and professional and community organizations also provide scholarships.
Students are encouraged to contact agencies (hospitals, nursing homes, American Legion, VFW, etc.) in their hometowns about possible nursing scholarships.
Faculty Advisor
Pre-nursing, Nursing and RN to BS students have access to faculty advisors to help them navigate the program and answer any questions. Your faculty advisor’s name is shown on the top of your Degree Audit.
With your advisor, you can:
- Review your Degree Audit and plan your pre-requisite courses for nursing program admission
- Discuss dropping or withdrawing from a course
- Review nursing program graduation requirements and plan your upcoming courses
- Complete an Academic Warning meeting
- Answer questions about clinical locations, schedules, and assignments
- Consider study abroad and faculty-led travel program opportunities
- Explore graduate schools and apply for jobs
