Sports ClubsWinona State has a variety of sports-related clubs and teams on campus. From fencing and martial arts to table tennis and competitive lacrosse, rugby, and ultimate frisbee, participation in sports clubs is something that improves experiences, builds relationships, and increases the well-being of the over 700 WSU students who play.

Sports Club CouncilSome sports clubs participate in intercollegiate competitions with students from other institutions across the country, and even the world.
Clubs that have a solid history, including three consecutive years of demonstrated fiscal solvency, fundraising, and competitive history can apply to be a part of the Sports Club Council. All clubs/teams affiliated with Sports Club Council have increased expectations and requirements and have a vote in all Sports Club Council issues and fund allocations.
Sports Club Council Leadership
Director of Integrated Wellness, Kate Noelke provides oversight of the Sports Club Council program. She provides clubs with essential information, advocacy, and connections on campus and in the greater Winona community.
Regular communication is essential to the success of your club and it is your responsibility to make sure you are getting the emails you need that tell you the time and location of required meetings, and other important information.
2018-19 Sports Club Council Executive Committee provides leadership for the Sports Club Council and is elected at the end of every spring semester.

Finding Spaces to Practice and Play
It is essential that the request is followed-up with an email to Director of Intramurals firstname.lastname@example.org or Jordan Holdsworth at email@example.com to confirm receipt of reservation request. EMS requests may be denied, so students requesting space must connect with Mark or Jordan to confirm their use of desired spaces.
- Access the EMS System, select My Account, and log in using your STAR ID and password.
- Search for the facility you want, and request use of the space.
- Follow-up your EMS request with an email to the appropriate person who approves reservations. Athletics facilities are approved by Jordan Holdsworth at firstname.lastname@example.org and Mark Bambenek at email@example.com. Kryzsko reservations are approved by Stephanie Stango firstname.lastname@example.org. Other requests are approved by email@example.com.
- Once you have received CONFIRMATION of your reservation, move forward planning your event/practice/game.
If a space request is approved, the WSU student who reserved the space must have their WSU Student ID for the duration of utilization of the space. Student ID may be requested by WSU Security, Athletics or General Maintenance personnel.
Priority for campus spaces is granted first to Academics, second to Athletics, third to Intramurals, fourth to student clubs/teams/orgs, and lastly to other community groups. Plan early and communicate often with Mark and Jordan. For more information, view the Facilities Handbook (PDF).
Facilities & Spaces Off Campus are essential for sports club teams and clubs, and working with community partners is a big part of finding places to play and practice. When clubs/teams identify outdoor or indoor spaces owned/maintained by community partners like the City of Winona, Winona Area Public Schools, the City of Goodview, and Winona Cotter Schools, they must initiate a contract with WSU Legal Affairs.
No student should ever sign an agreement or contract. This process may take up to a few weeks to complete so, early planning is essential.
Sports Club Travel
WSU Students can reserve vehicles from the WSU Motor Pool.
Within five days of return from student club travel, students must complete the Clery Act Student Travel form located in Warrior Space online documents.
Log into to Warrior Space, and from the tab called “Forms I Can Submit,” choose “Clery Act Student Travel.” Students must also provide receipts for reimbursement within 5 days of return to campus.

The mission of the Sports Club Council is the facilitate communication, provide leadership, training, allocation of funds, and guidance to Sports Club Council affiliated teams/clubs. Application to Sports Club Council
Use the Application to Application to Sports Club Council form if you are interested in applying to become a Sports Club Council-affiliated team. It is due by the second Friday in November for consideration during the following Academic year (ex: due November 2000 for Sports Club Council Affiliation during Aug 2001-May 2002 school year).
Sports Club Handbook
Sports Clubs are student run organizations for those who have a passion for a particular sport or who want to learn a new sport. Our program emphasizes leadership, education and service through participation in sports.

Sports Club Player Indemnification & Waiver Form
Each participant must complete a Sports Club Player Indemnification & Waiver for general play each academic year. Completed forms should be submitted to Rachel Cromheecke (Somsen 202).
Sports Club Volunteer Indemnification & Waiver
Any club that uses volunteers for coaching, helping, training, assisting, or events must have that volunteer sign the Sports Club Volunteer Indemnification & Waiver. Completed forms should be submitted to Rachel Cromheecke (Somsen 202).
Trip Indemnification & Waiver
Every participant in every trip must complete the Trip Indemnification & Waiver for travel. A student who goes on three different trips with three different clubs must complete three different forms. A student who goes on four different trips with the same club must complete four different forms. Completed forms should be submitted to Rachel Cromheecke (Somsen 202).
Contract Request Form
Student clubs/teams may use this Contract Request Form to initiate a contract with Rachel in the Legal Affairs Office. Please submit completed form to Rachel Cromheecke in Somsen 202 at least one month before you need to utilize the service or facility off of campus.
Request for Additional Funds
Sports Club Council Teams should submit the Request for Additional Funds online form if they would like to move up a tier or need additional fund for an exceptional reason during the season of play.
Post Season Funds Request
Sports Club Council teams should submit the Post Season Funds Request to request funds for post-season play at regional, national or international intercollegiate competitions. This form will start the ball rolling on getting a full Sports Club Council meeting set to discuss the allocation of post season funds.
Required Annual Report
Sports Club Council teams should submit the Required Annual Report form by the Friday of Graduation every May.
Sports Club Rosters
Sports Clubs should submit their Sports Club Roster to ASO and Director of Integrated Wellness at the beginning of each season of play.
Resources for Sports Club Advisors
Sports club advisors are volunteer faculty or staff members who have agreed to provide leadership, accountability, and support to student clubs and organizations. We are incredibly grateful to these volunteers on campus, who often take personal vacation to watch their clubs compete and give time from their work and families to advocate for our club teams. To ensure all student club advisors are on the same page, please work with your clubs to complete and return this form (PDF) to WSU Student Senate.
Club advisors are required to sign off on every 1400 form, Travel Request form, and any other official WSU form on behalf of their clubs. With their signature, faculty/staff advisors take on a degree of liability, so it is important for club leaders to communicate regularly with their advisors so everyone is on the same page with regards to issues of finance, travel, and conduct. Your advisor is your advocate, and your connection to the University. Protect and honor your advisor.
Club advisors are the official supervisors of any volunteers working with sports clubs, so it is important that club advisors are made aware of volunteers, and communicate with Rachel Cromheecke at email@example.com to ensure all volunteers have completed the Volunteer Waiver (PDF).
Advisors can help you check on your budget. By accessingMinnesota State Accounting, advisors can use club Cost Center numbers to access current balances and encumbrances. Advisors can also work with the Business Office and the Finance Office to help clubs/teams understand their finances.
