I. Meeting called to order at 3:37 p.m. by chair Kelly Herold. Next meeting is January 17, 2001.

II. Adoption of Agenda

III. Approval of November 15, 2000 minutes

Correct misspelled name of Jennifer Matsche.
P. Schumacher/D. Kaufman, M/S, to approve as amended. Motion passed.

IV. Gen. Ed. Substitution Requests

A. Matthew Barnard - ENG 326-304American Folklore (3 credits) from University of Wisconsin - Stout for Different Cultures. R. Miller/W. Lewis, M/S, to disapprove substitution. Motion passed.

B. Jennifer Wittenberg - ENG 120 Introduction to Literature: Portraits of Families Across Cultures (3 credits) from Winona State University for Different Cultures. B. Deppa/C. Schmidt, M/S to approve substitution. Motion passed with a vote of 14 - 5.

C. Lori Bille - MUS 114 World Music (3 credits) from Winona State University for Different Cultures. R. Ambers/E. Thompson, M/S, to approve substitution. Motion passed.

D. Hokanson/S. Eiken, M/S, that A2C2 considers only general education substitutions or requests that originate from colleges or universities other than Winona State University and that this change should be effective next semester [Spring 2001]. Motion failed.
S. Eiken/P. Schumacher, M/S, to reaffirm the current General Education substitution policy as approved by Faculty Senate on December 8, 1997. Motion passed.
E. Thompson/S. Eiken, M/S, that an e-mail be sent by Chair Herold to all students and faculty now and annually stating the current General Education substitution policy. Motion passed.

V. Course/Program Proposal Subcommittee

Committee recommends approval of the following courses. The votes were 8-0-1 for all.

A.    PER 290 Foundation of Tourism (3 SH)
B.    PER 339 Wilderness Ethics, Safety & Survival (3 SH)
C.    PER 393 Evaluation in Recreation, Tourism & Therapeutic Recreation (3 SH)

Courses were approved by A2C2.

VI. University Studies Subcommittee (USS) Report

Chair Herold reminds the committee that the submission policy is that courses approved by the USS must be published on the web before being considered by A2C2. Proposals should be submitted to Kathy Schott as soon as possible after subcommittee approval.

VII. Points of Information

The PER department reports the following course name changes:

PER 240 Trip Camping & River Canoeing to Outdoor Pursuits
PER 302 Tourism/Eco-tourism to Adventure Travel and Tourism Development
PER 421 Outdoor Education to Outdoor Education Interpretive Services

The THAD department reports that THAD 141 Oral Interpretation was listed as a 2 SH course. It should have been listed as a 3 SH course.

The MUS departments notes that the SPED 400 course requirement be changed to SPED 200 in the Music-Teaching major. Also, MUS 233 Piano Ensemble (1 SH) will be a one-time course offering.

VIII. New Business - Course schedule time conflicts

Beckry Magel-Magid expressed concern over the current registration system allowing students to schedule more than one course during a given time period. The current web registration system "flags" student on time conflicts, but does not prevent students from registering for conflicting classes. No action was taken.
