V.    Points of Information

1. Rosine Tenenbaum, Foreign Languages - requests a change from "6" to "6 to 8" s.h. for the Humanities requirement and from "3" to "3 to 4" s.h. for the Different Cultures Human Diversity requirement for University Studies.

Concerns expressed included that to make changes to a proposal that has already been passed on to and approved by the Faculty Senate, there would need to a motion to reconsider by an affirmative-voting member from the original vote. Secondly, the senate has already passed the structure of the University Studies program. Different Cultures is no longer a category in the new program and was struck and changed to Human Diversity as reflected in the explanation above.

J. Draskoci-Johnson noted that a motion to rescind is appropriate here.

R. Tennenbaum/S. Eiken, M/S, to rescind the University Studies structure.

Discussion focused on ramifications of making continual small changes at this point and that the number of credits in each category represents a minimum.

Motion failed.

2. C. Summa, Geoscience - catalog revision of Geoscience Teaching major as addressed in memo from Jim Meyers.

The additional requirements mentioned are not part of a course requirement. Student portfolios will be reviewed for compliance.

VI.    Additional Subcommittee or Ad hoc committee reports

        No reports.

VII.    Gen. Ed. Substitution Requests - none

VIII.    University Studies Subcommittee Report

K. Williams - met last Wednesday. Subcommittee fas received objectives from several areas. Level of specificity is comparable between area. Cross-college areas listed under the Unity and Diversity category will convene a group to solicit volunteers to meet to discuss objectives for the following areas with designated conveners:

Suggestion was raised to refer this to Committee on Committees. Opinion expressed was that this would be time-consuming and put a burden on the already overwhelmed committee.

Question concerning Math/Logic Flag - Since there are no present guidelines, a possible separation of the two flags into math and critical analysis areas by devising a set of criteria for each was discussed.

General guidelines will also be written for the Writing and Oral Communication flags.

Meeting adjourned 4:10 p.m.
