I. Meeting called to order at 3:36 p.m. by chair Kelly Herold. Next meeting is April 18, 2001.

II. Adoption of Agenda
    P. Schumacher/J. Jackson, M/S, to adopt agenda. Motion passed.

III. Approval of March 21, 2001 minutes
    P. Schumacher/D. Hokanson, M/S, to approve as amended. Motion passed.

IV. Course/Program Proposal Subcommittee
    Committee recommends approval of the following new or revised course proposals.

V. University Studies Subcommittee (USS) Report
    A.    USS recommends approval of the following as new courses:

    New courses were approved by A2C2.

    USS recommends approval of the following courses:

    Arts & Sciences Core - Humanities

    Arts & Sciences Core - Fine & Performing Arts

    Unity & Diversity - Critical Analysis

    Unity & Diversity - Science and Social Policy

    Unity & Diversity - Global Perspectives

    Unity & Diversity - Multicultural Perspective (all 3 SH)

    Unity & Diversity - Contemporary Citizenship

    Unity & Diversity - Democratic Institutions

    Courses were approved by A2C2 for University Studies Program.

    B.    USS recommends disapproval the following courses:

    Unity & Diversity - Multicultural Perspectives (vote of 2-0-4)

    A2C2 affirms the recommendation of the USS to disappove.

    Unity & Diversity - Global Perspectives

        (These courses were considered together, motion to approve failed with a vote of 2-3-1.)

    A2C2 affirms the recommendation of the USS to disapprove.

    C.    Transfer Students and USP

W. Lewis/R. Shields, M/S, to implement the following policy. "Transfer students beginning fall semester 2001, spring semester 2002, and summer session 2002 will be under the old general education studies program. Transfer students beginning fall semester 2002 will be under the Winona Experience studies program."

VI. Points of Information

  1. Chemistry - Chemistry major, Options A, B, and Teaching: Change the requirement of CHEM 360, 361 Chemical Information I, II (1 SH each) to CHEM 360 Chemical Information (2 SH).
  2. Health & Human Performance - Exercise Science, Athletic Training Option: Remove the requirement of HHP 498 Internship in Athletic Training (4 SH) and add HHP 389 Strength and Conditioning Principles and Programming (2 SH) and HHP 495 Capstone Clinical Skills Proficiencies Lab (2 SH).

VII. Old Business

Transfer Policy - VP Richardson has asked A2C2 to consider forming a transfer policy for identifying course equivalencies from community colleges and technical colleges in order to obtain better matriculation of transfer students. It was suggested that this issue might be better dealt with by a subcommittee beginning next fall.
