I. The meeting was called to order at 3:36pm by Chair Charla Miertschin

II. Adoption of agenda.  Approved by consensus.

III. Approval of minutes of February 25, 2004 (available at http://www.winona.edu/ifo/a2c2mintues/) Added text of MISO programs to minutes as requested. M/S, Shields/Boseker, to approve.  Motion passed.

IV. Chair’s report

A. The final CPPS meeting of the semester will be on March 31, 2004. Proposals must be submitted to A2C2 chair by March 24, 2004 to be considered at this meeting. This date provides adequate time for proposals to complete the approval process this spring.
B. The final USS meeting of the semester will be on April 14, 2004. Proposals must be submitted to A2C2 chair by April 7, 2004 to be considered at this meeting. This date does not guarantee adequate time for proposals to complete the approval process this spring.
C. The final A2C2 meeting of the semester will be on April 21, 2004. This is after the last faculty senate meeting. Items approved at the last A2C2 meeting may not be heard by senate until next fall.

V. General Education Course Substitution Requests

A. Alisa King - CMST 289 Gender Communication (3 SH) from WSU for Social Science. M/S, Miller/Summa, to approve. Motion passed.
B. Erin Sipe - PSY 400 Pediatric Health Psychology (3 SH) from WSU for Social Science. [Note: Independent study course taken in place of PSY 298 Health and Psychology.] M/S by Miller/Quella. Discussion related to counting a course from the student’s major and also as a general education requirement. Registrar had originally approved her application for graduation, then said she was deficient. Motion passed.
C. Robert Boero - RC 233 Latin American & Caribbean Immigration to the United States (4 SH) from WSU for Different Culture. M/S, Miller/Boseker, to approve. Motion passed.

VI. Course and Program Proposal Subcommittee (CPPS) report, Ed Thompson from 3/3/04.

Ed Thompson reports, all new courses and revised programs approved 9/0.

VII. University Studies Subcommittee (USS) report, J. Paul Johnson from 3/17/04. All course substitutions approved were unanimous. Course requirements and flags courses were approved unanimously.

  1. Nicholas Ridge - POLS 280 Political Research I-Secondary (3 SH) from WSU for Unity & Diversity: Critical Analysis. USS recommends disapproval.  A2C2 disapproved request.
  2. Rebecca Hibbard - PRAC 134 Summer Activities (1 SH) from North Central University for Basic Skills: Physical Development and Wellness. USS recommends approval.  USS recommendation: Instruct Registrar/Transfer Coordinator to accept all one-credit activities practicum courses from NCU for Basic Skills: Physical Development and Wellness.  A2C2 approved request.
  3. Rebecca Hibbard - ENG 340 Fiction Writing (3 SH) from North Central University for Arts & Science Core: Fine and Performing Arts. USS tabled request. Further course information requested. Required narrative not submitted.
