As the program is designed to fit the schedule of working Medical Laboratory Technicians, the program will require a minimum of 7-8 semesters. The number of semesters may vary depending on the number of transfer credits into the program. The nation is currently experiencing a shortage of laboratory professionals. This workforce shortage has been predicted to last until 2018. The likelihood of finding a position in the field is extremely high, especially if you wish to relocate to other areas of the country. 

Although most CLS students typically work in a clinical laboratory setting, some have decided to work in medically related companies, infectious disease and other organizations that require detailed work. In addition to performing the technical work within the clinical laboratory, management and educational positions are also available. 

Currently, online lectures make the course accessible to student at various locations.  As a number of students are from the St. Paul/Minneapolis area, the laboratory component of the course is offered at a location within the metro area.

The length of your clinical experience is dependent on your clinical experience and your competency with CLS level tasks.
