Welcome to Social Work

The Social Work Program at Winona State University aspires to teach students the values, skills, and knowledge necessary to be generalist social work practitioners in today’s world. Upon graduation, students should be able to work in any entry-level setting with any population. The Program educates students to be lifelong learners and active participants in a global society. Faculty work to develop graduates with interpersonal skills, communication and critical thinking skills, and the leadership skills necessary for meeting personal, civic, cultural, and professional challenges and who will address the need for social change. Students will understand what it means to be a change agent and resource broker, focusing particularly on services to the poor and oppressed with the goal of alleviating discrimination, poverty, and oppression foremost in their minds

Faculty are committed to being actively involved in the community to improve the lives of the citizens of Southeast Minnesota and to bring about the needed social change to alleviate discrimination, poverty, and oppression, thereby modeling the desired professional behavior expected of students.
