Poster #25 Hubert H. Humphrey's Domestic Fight Against Communism Michael S Collins Faculty Mentor: Matthew Lindaman Hubert Humphrey introduced the Communist Control Act in 1954 during the height of the Red Scare and the beginning of the end of McCarthyism. In 1948 Humphrey faced a similar challenge when the political party he belonged to, The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, faced a schism with Communists vying for control. Humphrey's past associations and organizations with anticommunism are what most influenced the Communist Control Act of 1954. |
