Chemistry Programs
The Chemistry Department offers a variety of majors, pre-professional pathways, and minors for undergraduate students.
Of our major programs, 5 meet the guidelines established and approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Graduates of these majors will be certified as professional chemists by ACS, which can be a great resumé booster when applying to jobs or graduate school.
We also offer 2 post-baccalaureate certificates to help students level up their skills after earning a bachelor’s degree.

Through our biochemistry major, you’ll learn how to understand and analyze the chemical processes that keep living organisms alive.
If you want to become a certified professional chemist, and open a variety of job opportunities, the ACS Chemistry major might be the for you.
The ACS Environmental Chemistry major is perfect for those who are interested in both chemical processes and the effects on the environment.
With the ACS Materials Chemistry major, you’ll learn create natural and synthetic materials used in everyday objects from clothing, paint, to makeup.
Our Chemistry (General) major will teach you the basics of being a chemist, like how to analyze the interactions between matter and energy.
Teacher Programs
If you are passionate about teaching and chemistry, we have programs that are perfect for you.
The Chemistry Department offers 2 teaching majors in partnership with the College of Education.
The ACS Chemistry (Teaching) major is an accredited program that will prepare you to teach high school chemistry and physics classes
If you are interested in teaching a variety of high school level science classes, the Physical Science Teaching major is a great option for you.
Pre-Professional Pathways
The Chemistry Department advises students in several pre-professional sequences.
These sequences are not degree programs. Rather, they are intended to prepare students for careers in medicine, veterinary work, dentistry, forensics (PDF), and more.
