Chemistry Programs

The Chemistry Department offers a variety of majors, pre-professional pathways, and minors for undergraduate students.

Of our major programs, 5 meet the guidelines established and approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Graduates of these majors will be certified as professional chemists by ACS, which can be a great resumé booster when applying to jobs or graduate school.

We also offer 2 post-baccalaureate certificates to help students level up their skills after earning a bachelor’s degree.

About the WSU Department of Chemistry
Students have excellent educational experiences due to small class sizes and opportunities to work closely with faculty. Graduates go on to a diverse range of careers, chemistry PhD programs and professional schools such as pharmacy and medical colleges.

Teacher Programs

If you are passionate about teaching and chemistry, we have programs that are perfect for you.

The Chemistry Department offers 2 teaching majors in partnership with the College of Education

Pre-Professional Pathways

The Chemistry Department advises students in several pre-professional sequences.

These sequences are not degree programs. Rather, they are intended to prepare students for careers in medicine, veterinary work, dentistry, forensics (PDF), and more.

Check out all the pre-professional pathways offered by WSU as well as the admission requirements for each pre-professional track (PDF).

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates

If you already have a bachelor’s degree and want to work in the medical field, you can expand your skillset and credentials with one of our post-baccalaureate certificates:

Winona State’s post-baccalaureate certificates are also great for students to prepare for either medical school or Physician Assistant graduate program admission requirements.

Minors

We offer minors that can pair well with a variety of other majors:
