Poster #32 Sixties Theme Event for Pediatric Oncology Patients and Families: A Time to Bond and Relax Danielle Delmore Faculty Mentor: Lorene Olson Cancer is a word no parent wants to hear when he or she takes his or her child to see the doctor. For the pediatric oncology patients at Gundersen Lutheran that word, cancer, is where their journey began. I did my practicum project with the Gundersen Lutheran Pediatric Oncology Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Child Life Specialist, Cheri Hill. We worked together to put on an event for the brave patients and their families as a time where they could network with other families who have gone through the process, or those who are just beginning, and also as a time when they could have fun and just be families. My part in this was to create a theme, find a place for the event, make an itinerary and supplies list, gather volunteers and give these families a great time. The event was held March 24th, 2012 and it was a great success. I learned a lot while doing my practicum project and I would like to share my experience. |
