Service Learning

Service Learning and civic engagement form an important part of the Health Promotion program. Most junior and senior level classes include projects designed to encourage students to become involved in the community and to learn through their involvement.

In the Health Promotion program students will use hands on service learning to improve your learning with opportunities that include:

  • Community service
  • Health fairs
  • Improving health classes
  • Promote Exercise
  • Free screenings
  • Blood drives
  • Healthy Eating Workshop
  • Volunteer
  • Peace Corps

Recent Service Learning Projects

  • Preventing domestic violence with Winona County Health Department
  • Promoting SEMCAC’s Family Planning STD Testing Services via a social media campaign
  • Developing an elementary after-school exercise and nutrition education for Winona Area Public Schools’ Key Kids Program
  • Working with a large grocery store to promote the health employees
  • Promoting low-cost dental services to parents of small children
  • Creating a child health issues newsletter for parents
  • Developing an index of locally health promoting services for health care workers
