Important Tips When Using a Pharmacy

Many health insurance plans may issue a separate card from your health coverage. Keep a picture on hand or just these important numbers:

  • Rx Bin Number
  • Rx PCN Number
  • ID Number
  • Rx Group Number (if applicable)

They can be found on a prescription insurance card like the example below:

For more general information on health insurance, please review the Insurance Information page

Call the customer service number on your pharmacy benefits card. They may be able to provide you with an estimated out of pocket cost. Typically customer service numbers are located on the back of the benefits card.

Provide your current pharmacy's phone number and the name of the medication and prescription number (if you have it) that you need transferred to the “new” pharmacy at which you want to fill the prescription.

You can easily transfer a prescription to another pharmacy temporarily. Provide your current pharmacy's contact information (phone number) and the name of the medication and prescription number (if you have it) that you need transferred to the “new” pharmacy at which you want to fill the prescription.

Don’t forget to have it transferred back when you return to campus after breaks!
