Education and Outreach

The WSU Education/Community Outreach subcommittee is charged with exploring and developing sustainable educational opportunities for the WSU community, as well as fostering community partnerships. campus

The subcommittee formed the Year of Sustainable Food Committee comprising members from the local organic farming community, Bluff Country Co-op, the Community Gardens project, the Land Stewardship, Winona County EDA, St. Mary's University, the Center for Engaged Research, Teaching and Scholarship (CERTS) and WSU faculty and staff. 

 Scheduling for the 2009-2010 academic year includes a local/sustainable foods banquet, a fall lecture series, a visit to campus by the Winona Farmers' market, field trips to area farms and cooking classes for students with an emphasis on sustainable/organic foods.  

WSU Sustainable Foods Partnerships Schedule

 With CERTS, the committee has established summer curricular grants for developing classroom connection to the sustainable foods emphasis.  The committee will also work with the Common Book Selection Committee to integrate the chosen common book with the sustainable food theme.  The book for 2009 is Kao Kalia Yang's The Late Homecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir.
