Dr. Eric Brisson

Dr. Brisson is on sabbatical leave during academic year 2013-14.

Pianist Eric Brisson is Associate Professor in the Department of Music at Winona State University, where his teaching duties involve Music Theory and piano accompaniment/coaching. He holds a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Montréal (2000), where he studied with Marc Durand. He also has worked with Leon Fleisher and Marek Jablonski at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), where he was enrolled in a special master class program (1991-1997).

Dr. Brisson has been performing in Canada since 1989 and has been a laureate in several national-level music competitions, among others the Canadian Music Competition (1st Prize winner in 1991 and 1992) and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition (3rd Prize, junior category, 1991). He has appeared as a soloist with the Canadian Music Competition Orchestra and the Sherbrooke Youth Orchestra, and has performed numerous recitals in Montreal and Québec City, some of them radio broadcasted by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Since moving to Winona in 2002, Dr. Brisson has been active both as piano solo recitalist and accompanist, and has been soloist with the Winona Symphony Orchestra, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble of Winona State University, and Chamber Music Winona. He is also employed as organist at Central United Methodist Church.

Dr. Brisson also has an interest in educational and music-related technologies. In 2001, he created and developed Pianopedia, an internet search engine dedicated to classical piano music. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from McGill University, completed in 2002.
