WSU’s Recreation, Tourism & Therapeutic Recreation Department not only gives students a high-quality education, but also an on-campus community.

With nearly 210 Recreation studies programs across the nation, WSU’s RTTR program was ranked 13th best value bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation, and leisure

The RTTR department offers 2 bachelor degree programs: Recreation and Tourism, and Therapeutic Recreation. 


Designed opportunities giving people the freedom to select and pursue experiences and activities during their free time, with the hope of eliciting positive emotions.

This allows people to “re-create” themselves, feeling renewed and ready to take on their daily responsibilities, whatever they may be.


Traveling to and staying in places outside a person’s usual environment for home leisure, business, and other purposes.

Tourism professionals organize travel, accommodations, and leisure activities.

Recreational Therapy

The American Therapeutic Recreation Association defines as recreational therapy as “a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, as a means to psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being.”
