Using TutorTrac to Find a Tutor

Finding a tutor  is quick, easy and free. To get started, watch the quick video tutorial or follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the TutorTrac website
  2. Login with your StarID and password
  3. Select search availabilities (upper left)
  4. For Center, choose Tutoring Services from the drop down
  5. For Section choose the course for which you want tutoring
  6. Click on "Search" in the lower left corner (this is the step most people miss and you may have to scroll down to see the button)
  7. Sessions marked in light blue are drop-in times, no appointment needed. Hover over the time and note the location
  8. Sessions marked in bright green are 1-on-1 and those marked in yellow are small group. You do need to click on a session to sign up.

A limited number of WSU peer tutors will be available for online tutoring appointments.  The schedule will be posted on TutorTrac.

In addition to these peer tutors, students are encouraged to use the online tutoring that WSU has provided through Tutor.com.  All WSU students have access to fifteen free hours of this service every year, and the new allotment is loaded on July 1. Log into D2L Brightspace and click on the Tutor.com link in the bottom left corner of your home page.

WSU has two options for online tutoring.

24/7 Online Tutoring with Professional Tutors

Every WSU student has access to 15 hours a year of free online, on-demand tutoring through Tutor.com.

Stuck on a problem? Want someone to review your paper? This tutoring service is easy to use and can be accessed on any device that connects to the internet.

When you log-on to Tutor.com you'll be able to:

  • Connect with over 3,000 qualified tutors 24/7
  • View replays and transcripts of previous sessions
  • Drop off an essay for review and feedback
  • Save your favorite tutors and see their schedule of availability
  • Access services from your mobile phone or tablet
  • Want to learn more? Here’s how it works.

To get your 15 free hours, you must access tutor.com through D2L Brightspace.

You can either enter one of your courses and from the Resources drop-down, choose Online tutoring with Tutor.com, or you can scroll down after you log into your D2L homepage and look for the tutor.com link on the right.

Use Zoom to work with a WSU Peer Tutor

See the tutor schedule in TutorTrac. You can limit your search to just online appointments or online drop-in times.

Best of all, tutoring with WSU Tutors does not count against your 15 hours of tutor.com tutoring, plus they are more likely to be familiar with your specific class/professor.

UCR Comprehensive Learning Center

WSU-Rochester undergraduate students are encouraged to use the tutors at the Learning Center. The Learning Center  provides students in many disciplines with a variety of support to promote academic success and personal and professional achievement.

Currently the Learning Center offers assistance in the following disciplines:

Online Tutoring

Free online tutoring is also available for all WSU students. Log into D2L and click on the Tutoring.com link in the bottom left corner of your home page.

Tutoring Services is offering a limited number of students the special opportunity to be matched with a tutor, which allows students to have on-going appointments every week—up to 2 one-hour appointments.

Priority is given to:

  • Students who are repeating a course
  • Students on academic warning or probation
  • Students who need to raise their GPA to be accepted to their major
  • Students who are referred by faculty or staff member due to special circumstances

Being matched with a tutor means you conveniently have the appointments set on your schedule every week. Additional advantages are that you would get 1-on-1 attention and work with the same tutor every time.

Of course, you could also continue to use drop-in tutoring and/or attend Supplement to Instruction (s2i) sessions.

If you are interested, please fill out the Tutoring Match form. Students who receive a match must commit to not missing more than two appointments or they may lose their spot in the match program.

Please contact jquandt@winona.edu with questions about the Tutor Match program
