Tutoring Options

During the fall and spring semesters Tutoring Services at Winona State uses a program called TutorTrac to share and schedule tutoring information.

You will be able to search for 1-on-1 options, as well as drop-in and group sessions for various subjects.

Review our Tutoring FAQs page for more information about tutoring and TutorTrac.

Appointments with WSU tutors will be held online for the remainder of spring semester.

Please use TutorTrac as usual to make your appointment. You can now sign up for an appointment just 15 minutes in advance.

These appointments with WSU tutors will not count against your Tutor.com online tutoring allotment, but are currently limited to 4 per week with a particular tutor.

After making your appointment, please check your confirmation email for instructions on how to connect with your tutor online.

The most important step is to activate your Meeting Spaces account my logging into D2L and clicking on the tutor.com link on the bottom right.

In addition to these peer tutors, students are encouraged to use the online tutoring that WSU has provided through Tutor.com.  All WSU students have access to fifteen free hours of this service every year, and the new allotment is loaded on July 1. Log into D2L Brightspace and click on the Tutor.com link in the bottom left corner of your home page.

WSU has two options for online tutoring.

Every WSU has access to 15 hours a year of free online, on-demand tutoring through Tutor.com.

Stuck on a problem? Want someone to review your paper? This tutoring service is easy to use and can be accessed on any device that connects to the internet.

When you log-on to Tutor.com you'll be able to:

  • Connect with over 3,000 qualified tutors 24/7
  • View replays and transcripts of previous sessions
  • Drop off an essay for review and feedback
  • Save your favorite tutors and see their schedule of availability
  • Access services from your mobile phone or tablet
  • Want to learn more? Here’s how it works.

To get your 15 free hours, you must access tutor.com through D2L Brightspace.

You can either enter one of your courses and from the Resources drop-down, choose Online tutoring with Tutor.com, or you can scroll down after you log into your D2L homepage and look for the tutor.com link on the right.

Use the Meeting Space in Tutor.com to work with a WSU Peer Tutor

Meeting Space is a great way to connect with a WSU Peer Tutor even if you aren’t in Winona. The technology is easy to us , includes video and voice capabilities, and you can record the sessions.

The white board is especially helpful for math and science courses.

Best of all, Meeting Space sessions do not count against your 15 hours of tutor.com tutoring.

To use this service, email jquandt@winona.edu and put Meeting Space Tutoring in the subject line and explain what subject you would like tutoring in, and list times you are available.

We will work on scheduling a tutor who will send you a Meeting Space Invite. Then, just log into Tutor.com through D2L and Click on the Join a Meeting Space button.

For questions, please email studentsupport@tutor.com or Jill Quandt at JQuandt@winona.edu

UCR Comprehensive Learning Center

WSU-Rochester undergraduate students are encouraged to use the tutors at the Learning Center. The Learning Center  provides students in many disciplines with a variety of support to promote academic success and personal and professional achievement.

Currently the Learning Center offers assistance in the following disciplines:

Online Tutoring

Free online tutoring is also available for all WSU students. Log into D2L and click on the Tutoring.com link in the bottom left corner of your home page.

Tutoring Services is offering a limited number of students the special opportunity to be matched with a tutor, which allows students to have on-going appointments every week—up to 2 one-hour appointments.

Priority is given to:

  • Students who are repeating a course
  • Students on academic warning or probation
  • Students who need to raise their GPA to be accepted to their major
  • Students who are referred by faculty or staff member due to special circumstances

Being matched with a tutor means you conveniently have the appointments set on your schedule every week. Additional advantages are that you would get 1-on-1 attention and work with the same tutor every time.

Of course, you could also continue to use drop-in tutoring and/or attend Supplement to Instruction (s2i) sessions.

If you are interested, please fill out the Tutoring Match form. Students who receive a match must commit to not missing more than two appointments or they may lose their spot in the match program.

Please contact jquandt@winona.edu with questions about the Tutor Match program
