Early Childhood & Elementary Education Programs

There are 4 majors for a Bachelor of Science Teaching degree available in the Early Childhood & Elementary Education Department.

Early Childhood Education Online (Birth-3)

The Early Childhood Education (Birth-grade 3) major is for students who are already working in Early Childhood and looking to get their Early Childhood license or who have an associate’s degree in Early Childhood.

With this online program, you’ll design, implement, and evaluate curriculum and activities for early childhood-aged students to give the youngest generation of students a great foundation for future learning

Early Childhood Elementary Education (Birth-6)

The Elementary Education with Early Childhood Emphasis major (Birth-grade 6) provides extensive hands-on learning experiences, in-depth courses, and teaching opportunities where you’ll design, implement, and evaluate curriculum and activities for early childhood-aged students

This program offers licensure for Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education in Minnesota.

Elementary Education (K-6)

In the Elementary Education (K-grade 6), you’ll design, implement, and evaluate curriculum and activities for elementary-aged students.

The extensive hands-on learning experiences and teaching opportunities will train you for Minnesota Elementary Education licensure.

Elementary Education Online (K-6)

The Elementary Education Online program is a flexible online option designed for working professionals with an associate’s degree or higher seeking licensure in Elementary Education (K-grade 6).

Whether you are a transfer student, mid-career professional, or just want a career change, this program has a lot to offer.

Teaching Minors

Adding a minor to your education major will complement your teaching credentials, reinforce your areas of interest, and help you become more marketable.

We offer a Reading Instruction minor for students who want to teach reading and literacy skills. This minor will also lay the foundation for a Teacher of Reading license in Minnesota.

Middle Level Minors

Our Middle Level minors go well with the Elementary Education (K-6) major. These minors allow you the flexibility to tap into high-demand subject areas and apply your skills in states outside Minnesota—some states like Wisconsin require a Pre-K–grade 6 or a grade 1-8 license.

Choose from the following Middle Level minors to be licensed to teach grades 5-8 in the following areas:
