Amanda Brouwer

Dr. Brouwer’s areas of interest are the social psychological factors that influence health and health behaviors, particularly for people living with or at risk for chronic disease.

Specifically, she is interested in how factors such as social identity, the self, social support, and self-efficacy affect goals and motivation to perform health behaviors.

She is currently exploring the role of the self-as-doer identity in health behaviors such as eating and physical activity.

Supervised Student Research

There will be opportunities to assist with Dr. Brouwer’s research examining the effects of different educational and motivational interventions on health behaviors like healthy eating and physical activity.

The purpose of these studies is to develop basic research to be used to help develop ways to improve health behaviors. There will also be other opportunities for students to assist with Dr. Brouwer’s research in one or more of the above areas.

Students with an idea for independent research are also welcome to propose a new project.
