Personal Statement
I have called a lot of places home in my life: the house in St. Paul where I grew up, a Hungarian block apartment, a village in Bulgaria, a lake in Guatemala, and briefly, a cargo ship on the Black Sea.
My life has been profoundly shaped by my service as both an AmeriCorps and Peace Corps volunteer, where I built relationships that enrich my life and challenge me to think about the many ways of knowing and experiencing the world.
After so much time living abroad, I couldn’t be happier to be back in Minnesota, embracing winter and spending time with my husband and 2 boys who often ask me to play baseball before 6:30am.
Professional Statement
As a documentary filmmaker, my creative scholarship examines the intersections of identity, memory, and place.
Heavily influenced by my time spent abroad and my Peace Corps service in Bulgaria, my work uses immersive audio and visual storytelling to explore global issues and create cross-cultural understanding.
My films have been supported by Fulbright and the New York Council on the Arts and showcased by The Atlantic, the National Gallery of Art, and film festivals around the world, including Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Sidewalk Film Festival, and Docudays Human Rights Festival.
