Environmental Health & Safety Department

Providing a safe and healthy environment for employees, students, and visitors is a top priority at Winona State University. WSU strives to maintain a hazard-free workplace and educational setting. Responsibility for safety is shared by all members of the campus community.

The Environmental Health & Safety Department (EHS) serves the University community by providing consultation, training, and technical support for environmental, health, and safety compliance throughout campus.

Regulatory Compliance

The Environmental Health & Safety Department maintains and/or coordinates various safety and environmental compliance programs for the University, including, but not limited to:

  • Employee Right-to-Know
  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Confined Spaces
  • Lockout/Tagout and Electrical Safety
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Automated External Defibrillators
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Ergonomics
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Risk Management and Insurance

Training sessions and work practices are based on the written safety programs. Programs are updated, expanded, or otherwise edited as necessary. Any changes made to the programs are communicated to affected employees during training sessions

Report a Safety Concern or Injury

As a member of the WSU community, it is both your right and your responsibility to report potential hazards. You should also make a report if you are injured on campus property or in an activity related to your employment with WSU.

The investigation of even minor injuries can assist in identifying areas of potential concern, resulting in the improvement of campus safety.
