Aaron Lohmeyer
Dr. Aaron Lohmeyer is Associate Professor of Music Education and Jazz Band Director at Winona State University.
He received his BA in Religion from Davidson College, MM in Saxophone Performance from Florida State University, and both his MEd and PhD in Music Education from Florida State University. His other professional training includes Orff Schulwerk Level I in Kenai, AK, and Levels II and III from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Lohmeyer has developed his pedagogy and research interests through public school teaching experiences in classroom general music, beginning band, world drumming, class guitar, jazz band, adaptive music, and creative composition. He also maintains an active performance schedule in jazz, classical, and popular music styles.
Dr. Lohmeyer’s publications can be seen in “Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education,” “Psychology of Music,” “The Orff Echo,” “General Music Today,” “String Notes,” “The Interval” and “The Florida Music Director.” He is a regular clinician on topics such as Orff-Schulwerk, jazz education, Popular Music Pedagogy (PMP), and digital music literacies. Dr. Lohmeyer’s current research and practice explores music multiliteracies for the digitally connected world.
