Tammy Bartz
Dr. Tammy Bartz is delighted to be a part of the WSU Music Department faculty as an Applied Horn Instructor, bringing with her many years of teaching and performance experience.
Her educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, and Elementary Education from the University of Mary. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education from Walden University, a Master of Music from Kent State University, and a PhD in Music Education from Liberty University.
Currently, Dr. Bartz serves as an Adjunct Horn Instructor at Winona State University. She has also served as an Adjunct Horn Instructor for Saint Mary’s University in Winona, and she has been a dedicated music educator in the Houston Public School District since 1994, where she shares her passion for music with young instrumentalists.
Dr. Bartz’s research interests include Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory (MLT) and using the singing voice as a tool for teaching instrumentalists. She believes that singing plays an essential role in developing musicianship, particularly for beginning instrumentalists, and integrates this approach into her teaching practices.
Dr. Bartz’s performance career includes over 20 years serving as Assistant Horn with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and playing in esteemed ensembles such as the La Crosse Brass Quintet, Winona Symphony, La Salle Woodwind Quintet, and Quintessence Woodwind Quintet. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Saint Mary’s University Chamber Orchestra and performs extensively with various university, chamber, and symphonic groups across the tri-state area.
