Arts Administration Minor

The Arts Administration minor helps lay the foundation for student’s future participation in arts organizations as leaders, participants, and supporters. It will also complement student’s training as artists, teachers, and practitioners.

An education in arts administration is important because arts organizations are becoming increasingly complex. They need knowledgeable, skilled individuals who possess:

  • aesthetic sensibility
  • business acumen
  • a deep understanding of current issues and trends relevant to an organization’s health, prosperity and, survival

The Arts Administration minor is 24-27 credits and consists of classes in art administration, business, and music.

This minor pairs well with many majors, especially those in the art and education fields. In this program you will:

  • Have experiential learning opportunities to combine academic coursework and hands-on, relevant extra-curricular opportunities on campus and in the community in such areas as marketing, fundraising, operations, and general arts management
  • Build relevant, transferable management and leadership skills for social service agencies, educational institutions, commercial arts industries, and other for-profit and non-profit organizations
  • Explore issues of arts policy, cultural management, emerging technologies, and leadership and organizational development

There are many supporters of arts administration outside of WSU.

The Association of Arts Administration Educators offers resources and training for those in the field of Arts Administration.

AAAE serves to support art administrators to ensure they can do their jobs well and that the arts can thrive.
