With the WSU music education degree, students are prepared to become excellent music teachers and leaders in the profession. Students can pursue their own interests and talents both inside and outside the classroom, while developing a solid academic foundation in music and teaching.

The BS in Music (Education) – Emphasis in Vocal Music prepares students to obtain a teaching position in either choral music or classroom music at kindergarten through high school levels in Minnesota
Course requirements include core music classes, music teaching methods and a series of courses offered by the education department, including student teaching opportunities.

The BS in Music (Education) – Instrumental Music Emphasis prepares the students to obtain a teaching position in band, orchestra or classroom music at all levels, kindergarten through high school in Minnesota.
Course requirements, along with core music classes, include music teaching methods and a series of courses offered by the education department, including student teaching at both elementary and secondary levels.

National Association for Music Education
The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) is the world’s largest arts education organization.
The WSU Collegiate Chapter of NAfME plays a strong role in helping students develop professional interests and skills:
- Develop leadership and teamwork skills through activities and leadership positions
- Attend workshops, performances and industry exhibits at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Annual Midwinter Clinic in Minneapolis
- Help organize the annual elementary choral songfest – host, conduct rehearsals, observe and listen to more than 500 area schoolchildren
- Be part of a strong community working together to be future music educators
