Health, Exercise & Rehabilitative Sciences Program Admission

Most undergraduate programs in the HERS Department do not require admission. You can simply declare your HERS major or minor

Before you can be considered for admission into the HERS graduate programs, you must first apply for admission to the School of Graduate Studies at WSU.

Athletic Training Program Admissions Process

The Athletic Training program requires an admission process because it includes a master’s program. View the MSAT Student Handbook (PDF) for details on the admission requirements.

Students currently enrolled in the 3+2 program at WSU should contact Brian Zeller for instructions and to confirm eligibility prior to application.

Athletic Training Admissions Criteria

This is a competitive admission process. Admission is not guaranteed to those meeting the minimum admission criteria.

Only students admitted to the professional phase will be able to continue with the academic and clinical portion of the MSAT program.

Apply to the Athletic Training Graduate Program

Once you’ve been accepted to WSU Graduate Studies, you are ready to apply to the Athletic Training program.

Follow the Athletic Training Application Checklist (PDF) for details on the application process.

You must submit all MSAT program application requirements, including:

  • Proof of current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid

Expectations for the Personal Statement

Your personal statement/cover letter should be no more than three pages in length and should answer the following questions:

  1. Introduce yourself to the selection committee.
  2. Why do you wish to become an Athletic Trainer and why do you feel you would be a successful applicant?
  3. Why are you choosing Winona State University?
  4. What are your career goals?

MSAT Admission Review Process

All application materials will be reviewed by the MSAT faculty starting Sept. 1 until a maximum enrollment of 20 students is achieved.

Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early to ensure that the program is not already full at the time of application.

The application materials are rated and ranked (PDF) by a committee who will determine acceptance or denial of admission.

Students will be notified of their acceptance status into the MSAT program within 2 weeks of application.

Rolling admission will continue until the cohort is filled. All admission decisions must be completed by May 15.
