Communication & Media Labs & Equipment
As a Communication & Media student, you’ll take most of your classes in the Performing Arts Center or in Phelps Hall.
Our department has a variety of unique learning spaces and production facilities for you to work in.
These areas include high-tech equipment for teaching, small-group work, and media production, as well as comfortable lounges for doing homework, socializing, or relaxing.
Interactive Media Lab
Creative Digital Media students have access to our “mad scientist” interactive media art lab.
Here, you can experiment with interactive installation, projection-based projects, haptic media, and other forms of digital communication.
Multimedia Studio
The Multimedia Studio is a 2-story facility that’s set up for multiple disciplines, including video, digital photography, and production.
This studio also has a window for students passing by to look through and see what their peers are working on.
Phelps 101
Phelps 101 is a high-tech classroom specially designed for media collaboration and exploration.
Students can share their ideas, mockups, websites, and document files with one another or the entire classroom with simple drag-and-drop from their personal laptops.
Group members can even share control of laptops to simplify demonstrations and troubleshooting.
Photo Studio
This is a full photographic studio equipped with a variety of lighting, light control accessories, and rigging.
Students in photography courses have full access to this studio for their individual and group projects.
Photography Lab & Darkroom
Students taking photography and digital imaging courses have access to this space to produce film using our Beseler enlargers.
This space is also for advanced photo classes to process film, print photographs, and mount them.
You might even find yourself using our quality archival printing equipment.
Radio Station
Want to be on the radio? Check out our own student station, KQAL.
Our on-campus radio station allows students of any major to get hands-on experience working with an array of musical genres, promotions, and topics like news and sports.
Reading Room
If you’re looking for a quiet space, the Reading Room is your destination.
This room houses 1,400 media-related books, which is perfect for anyone starting their research.
You can also host meetings or work with a small group for upcoming class assignments and projects in this room.
