Housing During Breaks
While most students leave campus during breaks, there are options to stay in your residence hall room.
All residence halls close at 6pm on Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving Break and will reopen at 11am on Dec.1.
If they register, students may stay in their room during Thanksgiving Break. There is no additional fee to stay for Thanksgiving Break.
Students must register on their Housing Portal between Nov. 12-24.
Limited Services
- There is no meal service provided during break
- Front desks will have limited hours
Students who do not register for Thanksgiving Break must leave the residence halls by 6pm on Nov. 26.
Before you leave, be sure to complete the “Leaving for Break” checklist provided by your RA.
All residence halls close for Winter Break at 3pm on Dec. 13 and will reopen at 11am on Jan. 10. Students will not have access to their residence halls over the break period unless they apply for Winter Term Housing.
Staff members check every student’s room during closing procedures. If a policy violation is observed while staff are securing the building, staff will document the violation and follow-up when the student returns in January.
Residents found staying in the residence communities during Winter Break who did not register will be charged the full rate plus an administrative fee and may be subject to disciplinary proceedings.
If you were approved for a room change for spring semester, you must move to your new room before you leave for Winter Break. Your Area Coordinator will provide more information.
Students with a University-related reason can request an extended stay through Dec. 13-16. This is a request to stay in your room for up to 3 additional days to finish up University-related business.
Submit a request on the Housing Portal by Dec. 8.
For students who have applied for Winter Term Housing, there are limited services between Dec. 13 – Jan. 12:
- There is no meal service provided during break.
- Front desks will have limited hours
Visitors
A visitor is considered a person who is not a resident for the Winter Term. WSU residents who have not applied and paid for Winter Term may not visit as guests.
The visitor policy remains in effect during Winter Term:
- You must escort your visitor at all time in the residence halls
- You are responsible for your visitor and their actions
- A visitor may not stay more than 3 consecutive days within a 7-day period
- Cohabitation is prohibited
Students who do not apply for Winter Term or request an Extended Stay must leave the residence halls by 3pm on Dec. 13. Before you leave, be sure to complete the “Leaving for Break” checklist provided by your RA.
Your Warrior ID card will be deactivated for break, which means you will not have access to your residence hall. Staff members will check every room to ensure our facilities are safe and secure for the break period.
Any resident found staying in the residence halls during break who did not apply for Winter Term will be charged for the full rate plus an administrative fee and may be subject to disciplinary proceedings.
Residence halls will reopen at 11am on Jan. 10. Meal plans begin on Jan. 11.
Mail & Packages
Mail service will continue during Winter Break. Packages will be received and held at the front desks until you return in January. Mail & packages will not be forwarded to students during Winter Break.
Forget Something?
If you want to come back for something you need at home, contact your residence halls directly. The duty phones will be covered by staff during the break period and can meet you at your hall front desk to escort you to your room. Forgotten items will not be mailed to students by the University.
All residence halls close at 6pm on March 7, 2025 for Spring Break and will reopen at 11am on March 16.
All rooms will be inspected by Residence Life Staff for health and safety checks after the halls close for Spring Break.
Students may register to stay in their room during Spring Break. There is no additional fee to stay for Spring Break.
Registration will open in the Housing Portal on Feb. 17.
