Get Involved in Residence Life
Getting involved on campus is one way to enhance your college experience at WSU.
Whether you are looking to step into a leadership role through Hall Council and RHA or become a student employee, we are confident your experiences will increase your leadership skills.
If you are not ready to take on a formal leadership role, there are still many ways to get involved. You can participate in your floor or hall events, assist your RA with planning an event, or volunteer to help on the Welcome Crew.
Residence Housing Association
Residence Housing Association (RHA) is the governing body of the residence halls on campus. Our mission is to serve the students living in the halls and to make it the best experience possible.
Each Hall Council is made up of elected positions, including President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Both first-year and upper-level students are eligible to hold these roles. Elections are held within the first month of the fall semester.
Hall Council meetings take place on Mondays in each residence hall, providing an opportunity for residents to ask questions, share feedback, and voice any concerns to their Hall Council representatives.
Want to see minor changes in your hall? Have suggestions for dining services? Hoping for different items to be available at the front desk? Bring your ideas to a meeting!
Hall Council members collaborate with the Area Coordinator to explore the possibility of implementing changes. Getting involved in Hall Council is a fantastic way to step into a leadership role on campus.
The RHA Executive Board provides leadership and guidance to Hall Councils across campus, organizes events for students living in the residence halls, and serves as a voice for residents by advocating for their needs and concerns.
Serving on the Executive Board is a valuable opportunity to:
- develop leadership skills
- collaborate with campus administrators
- make a lasting impact on the residential experience
Elections are held each spring semester, allowing passionate and dedicated students to step into key leadership roles and help shape campus life.
WSU’s Residence Housing Association is proudly affiliated with MACURH (Midwest Affiliate of College & University Residence Halls) and NACURH (National Association of College & University Residence Halls).
Each year, our RHA representatives attend regional and national conferences, gaining valuable insights and innovative ideas to enhance our residence life program.
By learning from other institutions and sharing best practices, we create a positive, engaging, and lasting on-campus experience for all residents.
National Residence Hall Honorary
The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is a student honorary supported by National Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated (NACURH). NRHH strives to recognize individuals who have contributed to the advancement of Housing & Residence Life and the WSU community.
Members complete monthly recognition projects, write Of-The-Month (OTM) nominations, and complete service projects each semester. NRHH also provides its members with resource sharing, programming, and leadership development opportunities. To join, fill out the application form.
Of the Month Awards (OTMs)
Of The Month awards (OTMs) are short essay nominations (200-600 words) to recognize outstanding individuals and residence hall programs that have made significant impacts on our campus. OTMS are due at midnight on the 5th of every month. OTMs are graded on campus, regional, and national levels.
Anyone is welcome to submit an OTM nomination to say, “Good Job!” for all the hard work individuals put in daily.
To write an OTM nomination, fill out the submission form.
Welcome Crew
Help new students move into the residence halls as part of the Welcome Crew. Volunteer sign up for Fall 2025 will be available during spring semester. Move-in Day for Fall 2025 is Aug. 21.
The WSU Welcome Crew is a combination of student, staff, faculty, retiree, and alumni volunteers who make the move in process easier by:
- directing traffic
- unloading vehicles
- transporting belongings to rooms
- distributing keys and student ID cards
- making new students feel welcome – the most important job
If you volunteer, you’ll sign up for a 4-hour shift—or take on more shifts, if you are interested. It’s a great way for student clubs and sports teams to fulfill community service hours.
All volunteers will get a free t-shirt and a free lunch or dinner on your shift. If you live on campus, you’ll be able to move in early too.
