Advising for Summer Session Courses
WSU’s Summer Session is a great opportunity for students to catch up, keep up, and get ahead. It’s a way to give students more flexibility in their course schedules throughout the year.
There are 3 distinct sessions so students can take a course and still have time for work, travel, and other summer activities.
Summer 2026 dates are:
- May Session: May 9 – June 1
- June Session: June 2 – July 2
- July Session: July 6 – August 5
Some courses run outside of these dates, so be sure to check with eServices for the official dates of each individual course.
Taking a Summer Session course is a great option for students who:
- are behind in credit load to complete their degree
- have recently changed their major or declared a major or minor
- wish to lighten an upcoming fall or spring credit load
- need a prerequisite course for the fall or spring
- wish to focus on only one course due to its level of difficulty or their passion for the subject area
- see summer as an opportunity to graduate earlier than expected
- need to retake a course
- enjoy online courses
- are enrolled as a part-time student and want to expedite their time to degree completion
Students will have access to the Warrior Success Center, the Warrior Hub, the Krueger Library, and Counseling Services during Summer Session.
Planning Timeline
- Mid October: Most Summer Session course options should be viewable online
- Early November: Registration for Winter Spring & Summer Session opens at the same time. Students can register for Winter and Summer when their Spring registration window opens
- Summer courses that are cancelled will be communicated to registered students 3 weeks before the session starts
Important Considerations
Billing & Financial Aid
Summer Session courses will be billed at the per-credit tuition and fee rates and has a similar payment schedule.
Students can apply for Summer Financial Aid after they register for courses. Contact the Financial Aid Office for any questions about Summer Session financial aid.
Registration
All Summer Session courses are listed in Student eServices. Under “Semester,” select “Summer Session” to search for courses.
Expectations & Preparedness
May session courses are 15 days long. June & July courses are each 20 days long.
Students should be prepared to dedicate much of their time each week to completing Summer Session coursework (40 or more hours per week for a 3-credit course).
Taking more than one Summer Session course (or more than 3 credits) during any one session may be too much for most students to achieve the level of success they prefer. Students can take up to 19 credits over Summer Session, but we don’t recommend more than two courses per term.
Graduation
Students who graduate over the summer have their choice of participating in Fall or Spring commencement.
