Apply for Housing

Whether you are new to WSU or a current student returning to the halls, the Housing & Residence Life office is happy to help you through the application process.

Housing Agreement & Rates

The Agreement for Housing & Dining binds you to certain legal requirements and is valid for the entire academic year. You should read and understand the terms and conditions in the prior to signing.

The cost for housing depends on the residence hall and room type you choose.

Housing for 2024-2025 Academic Year

Are you starting your college career at WSU in Fall 2024? Once you are admitted to WSU, you will have access to the housing application.

To access the housing application, you will need your StarID and password. If you need assistance with your Star ID, call the Minnesota State Help Desk at 1.877.466.6728.

Access your Housing Portal through Student eServices.

  1. Login with your StarID and password
  2. Choose “Housing & Dining” in the main menu

Once you are logged into your Housing Portal, click on “Housing Application” to begin the application process.

To complete the housing application, you will have to sign the Agreement for Housing & Dining and submit a $250 pre-payment.

The Agreement will be located within the housing application in your Housing Portal.

Applicants over the age of 18 can electronically sign their Agreement within the application.

Applicants under the age of 18 will need to have a proxy (parent/guardian) sign on their behalf.

Having a roommate is part of the college experience. Most of our rooms are double occupancy, meaning most students will have a roommate.

There are 2 ways you can get paired with a roommate:

  1. Get matched with another student during room selection. Most students do not request a roommate and will meet their roommate after the room selection process in May
  2. From March 1-May 1, you will be able to request a roommate in your Housing Portal

Important notes about roommate requests:

  • A roommate group cannot have more than 2 individuals in it
  • Roommate groups must be created and verified by May 1
  • Students in a roommate group will receive the same time slot for room selection
  • Time slots for roommate groups are based on the “average” of the students’ completed housing application date

Learn more about how to find and request roommates.

Students can pick their exact room during the room and meal plan selection process if they submit their signed Agreement for Housing & Dining and $250 pre-payment by May 1. Room selection time slots will be sent via email in early May.

Time slots are determined by the date the housing application is completed. This means we’ll honor the latest date that both the $250 pre-payment and the signed agreement are submitted.

When you receive your time slot, you will be able to access the room selection portion of your application on your Housing Portal.

Once your room selection time slot opens on May 14-16, you can filter preferences based on what hall or type of room you would like to live in. Then, you can view open spaces meeting those criteria and select your room from those options.

Students who submit their application and payment after May 1 will be assigned a room by our office staff on or after May 24. You will be notified via email, or you can view this information on your Housing Portal.

More information and details regarding room selection will be available on your Housing Portal.

Once you select your room, you will be able to choose your meal plan.

Students who do not select a meal plan by July 15 will be assigned the 14 meals/week plan to start the school year.
