New Employees
Welcome to Winona State—we’re so glad you’re here! Here’s what you need to know going into your first day on the job.
Prior to Your First Day
Watch for an email with the subject “Welcome to Minnesota State” from noreply@minnstate.edu. This email contains a secure link to create or reactivate your personal affiliation to Minnesota State.
After you create the affiliation with Minnesota State you will get another email with instructions on how to log into the Human Resources System called Workday. Log into Workday to complete assigned action items such as a:
- Tennessen Warning
- Personal Contact Information
- Emergency Contact
- EEOC data
- I-9
- Retirement Questionnaire
Completing the tasks promptly ensures you have access to technology and will be paid timely when you begin your role.
You will have plenty of support getting started on your first day. Connect with Human Resources to complete your hiring paperwork.
If you are employed on the Winona campus, go to Human Resources in Somsen 114 to complete and sign your I-9 Employment Verification form.
You will also be required to provide document(s) to prove your eligibility for employment in the U.S.
Only genuine, original, unexpired documents from the List of Acceptable Documents can be accepted.
If you are employed on the Rochester campus, go to Student Services 128 to complete and sign your I-9 Employment Verification form.
You will also be required to provide document(s) to prove your eligibility for employment in the U.S.

If you are hired to work at a remote location within the U.S. and you are not able to physically come to campus, call Human Resources at 507.457.5005 to arrange an alternative option.
Orientation
Upon hire, new employees are enrolled in an online New Employee Orientation which covers campus resources, parking, payroll, benefits, policies, and procedures.
Instructions for completing the D2L Brightspace course will be sent to your WSU email.
Human Resource offers individual sessions on retirement and insurance benefits for newly eligible employees.
