Mental Health Services
Any current student at WSU, WSU-Rochester, or MN State Southeast can make an appointment with Counseling Services.
Find the mental health services that work best for you–whether that’s working with a counselor, attending one of our events, or learning skills through the resources offered.
Individual Counseling
By talking to a counselor one-on-one in a safe, confidential space, you can learn ways to cope with life’s challenges and resolve personal concerns.
The counselors are ready to help with a variety of concerns including:
- adjusting to college
- family and relationship concerns
- stress
- grief
- depression
- anxiety
- other mental health challenges
We provide short-term counseling. Most students find that 3-5 sessions per term is enough.
You won’t be billed for counseling services. This support service is included in student fees.
If you and the counselor decide you may need more frequent care, we can help refer you to a counselor in the community.
Counselors are not able to provide documentation for emotional support animals.
Crisis Counseling
If you feel you’re in a mental health crisis, a WSU counselor is available Monday – Friday from 12pm-3:30pm.
If you need an immediate response outside of these hours, please contact the appropriate emergency services.
To schedule a free confidential appointment, complete our online form.
If you have questions, you can:
- Call 507.457.5330
- Email counselingservices@winona.edu
Please let us know ahead of time if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Email peersupport@winona.edu to set up a meeting with a trained student or learn more about the Peer2Peer Program.
If you need help right away, contact one of these emergency resources.
Therapy Dogs
Our therapy dogs, Aiden and Winston, come to campus to offer canine cuddles. Interacting with animals can help relieve stress and homesickness for student missing their pets.
Feel free to come say “hi” to one of the therapy dogs if they are “out and about” on campus or attend the “Pet a Therapy Dog” session that is offered every semester.
Career Counseling
You can take the Strong Interest Inventory, which can be a great step in career exploration.
Email Lynda Brzezinski at lbrzezinski@winona.edu to learn more or to set up a time to take this assessment.
Otherwise, Career Services is a great resource for help choosing a major or learning about careers. Career Services is located in Maxwell Hall 314.
